- Both compartments warm. Compressor start relay, condenser fan, or a dust-clogged condenser coil overheating the system. Relay and fan are same-visit fixes. A dead compressor or a sealed-system leak is the repair-or-replace conversation, except on built-ins where repair still wins.
- Frost on the freezer back wall. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat or the control board. Common on the older Whirlpool and Kenmore units west of Yonge.
- Water on the kitchen floor. Clogged defrost drain, cracked ice maker line or failed inlet valve. Quick and cheap; do it before the hardwood swells.
- Ice maker stopped. Frozen fill tube, inlet valve, or a worn ice maker module. On the rural Aurora properties toward Bloomington on well water, scale in the valve comes first.
- Clicking or buzzing. Start relay cycling or the condenser fan catching debris. A relay clicking for weeks takes the compressor with it.
